With summer in full swing there are so many fruits and veggies in season and knowing what comes when will help you keep grocery costs down … especially if you don’t mind freezing. Lots of summer berries make for great frozen treats, whether whole or pureed for future use. Veggies can also be frozen for later use either blanched or cooked into soups or other great casseroles. You can find some great tips at the Canadian Produce Marketing association’s site here. Shopping at local farms or u-pick places will also cut out some of the costs involved with getting to your local grocery store. We also love, love, love shopping at our local Farmer’s Markets for local fresh seasonal produce and yummy products. You can google terms like “what’s in season” + your province or check the Farmers Markets Canada website for markets happening in your province / city.
